Hello, Steve. One of my senior moment's inattentiveness late this afternoon has resulted in quite a situation for me. Well, how do I get the cowlings off my foot pedal Thetford toilet to clean up this stinky mess I made?
Bad stuff: I connected shore water to wrong water inlet - NOT city water connection. When I went inside to check progress of fresh water fill, I heard flushing sound. Went to toilet room and didn't see any water being flushed. I depressed foot pedal to see if water was indeed being flushed, thinking my wife had flushed the toilet while I was outside and the pedal stuck. Nope! ( Doesn't make any sense to me now, either. )The black tank was pressurized by flushing water because I did not open black tank drain valve. As soon as I depressed the pedal - instant mess all in the toilet room. Black water went also into compartment underneath the bathroom. Toilet room is still stinky after cleaning up as best I can! Major cleanup job with water hose and bucket of pine sol disinfectant and water inside and outside. Can't clean under toilet between floor in coach and underflooring in compartment. Don't know where to look for leaks and hidden smelly former black tank contents.
Good stuff?:Toilet still functions. Outside compartment is clean. Can't see any dripping water in outside compartment while flushing toilet. Am I going to have to remove toilet and replace any valves, seals, etc. as well as clean out all the hidden from sight places where black water got into? Don't mind doing it, just don't know how, where to start.
This is so embarrassing; my wife kindly says I didn't do it intentionally, but she is still sleeping on the sofa tonight because of the lingering unpleasant odor in the bedroom! She even did yeoman's work in cleaning up after this major foulup. I'd like to fix this myself to reduce the cost of not following my established procedures for fresh water tank fill, and redeem a tiny bit of pride, but I need a little help. I went to the Thetford site and found the exploded drawing of my Thetford Pedal flush toilet. But, I still can't decifer how to take apart this toilet... THANK YOU.
