not sure if this is elect or mech - - On my 2006 Fleetwood Expedition, front driver-side slide extends and retracts normally. After a room seal repair at Laztdays a couple of years ago, the lower part of the room moved out about 1/2 inch after a short bit of travel vibration. Several days ago the minimal problem became more of a problem, the room began drifting out 2 to 3 inches. I temporarily fixed the problem by hooking a rechet strap between a seat belt loop under the passenger side couch and the base of the driver side couch. Room didn't drift out at all. What might be the permanent fix? (I've read in some forums, and in the Power Gear operations manual, the problem may be associated with the motor brake. But from what I read, with the brake on the room shouldn't move unless driven by the motor, with the brake off the motor is disconnected and the room can be driven with a wrench.)

You are correct, if it is electric check the motor to make sure the brake is engaged. There is a lever on the end of the motor to disengage the brake if the room needs to be manually operated. If the brake is disengaged this will allow the room to extend slightly when driving. If it is a hydraulic operated room a hydraulic fluid leak will allow the room to extend. The leak can be either external, which would be visible during an inspection of the hydraulic system, or internal which will not show visible signs of fluid. An internal leak would be a valve leaking allowing the pressure to be released in the hydraulic system allowing the room to extend slightly.

Steve, Thanks for your help so far. It is electric motor drive. I'll crawl under there (hard at my age) and check position of the brake lever depending on the answer to the next question. Should the room drive in and out with the brake lever in disengage position?

Yes the motor will still operate normally. The brake is what holds the motor in the position the room is stopped. The brake must be released and the motor disconnected from power to operate manually.
