On the road, driving a bunch of miles and not enought time to stop and stay overnight in a campground? Welcome to WallyWorld. WalMart to the uninitiated. Do you have a WalMart Atlas? They tell you where WalMArts, Super WalMarts, Sam's, Flying J and Cracker Barrels are located, by an icon on the map. These are great clues to a free overnight. Now there is a certain etiquette to these, one being it is an overnight, not really a campground, so slides are a no-np, unless you find an edge and deploy over the edge. Leave a good amount of space between you and the next rig. It is a courtesy to at least visit the store and stock up on something, or in the case of Cracker Barrel, having a meal. The establishments are allowing you the use, you are saving a campground fee, it is the least you can do.
If you see the roving security, say hello, introduce yourself and thank him for being there. This is the crew watching over the security for the company, but in so doing, he is also looking out for you. Maybe even offer a coffee!
Great thing about these overnights, no hookups, no unhooking, just start up in the morning and get back on the highway.
We all love the travel, the sights, a nice campground to get to at 2PM, set up,, have a nice dinner and a drink, and in the morning a liesurely breakfast before moving on. Great way to travel when time is your friend, but when you need to post a couple 400 to 500 mile days, a WalMArt, Sam's or Cracker Barrell is a great way of getting your rest and saving some money.
This is a good spot to let others know of a good location or ones to avoid. Some cities have banned the overnights, but majority of the cities are still OK about it.
