Thanks for your help. As I said, I have a 2001 gas Bounder with an ONAN Marquis 5500 generator. I am not sure what the spec letter refers to but here are the model and serial numbers if that helps. Model # 5.5BGMFA26105H and the serial is C000 079484. The meter reads 630 hours on the generator and I just had it completely serviced because it had been cutting out on me. When serviced, it had a new air filter, gas filter cleaned, new oil, the air intake was cleaned and reattached because it had become dislodged. I also had the spark plug cable replaced. The generator runs very well when I am stationary. I can run both of the a/c units and the television sets (2) without a problem. When I start to drive, the generator cuts off after 4-5 miles. I have a ¾ full gas tank. I am just perplexed as to what is going on. Do you have any ideas?
Another problem I am having is that the electronic climate control seems to be really taxed. The “shed” lights seem to be flashing very frequently when both a/c units are running. In the morning and evening, it does not seem to be happening. Do you think the excessive heat we are having at the present is too much for the a/c units to handle during the day?
Again, thanks for your help.

Generator: Will it restart while driving? Check all battery cable connections and 12 volt ground connections to the generator. Have the batteries been checked for water level? It is possible that a fuel problem is causing your shut down. Inspect all rubber fuel lines from generator to fuel tank and make sure all clamps are tight. Another possibility is a faulty ignition module or ignition rotor. We have experienced cracked ignition rotors that will show a problem in transit but not when sitting.
Climate control system: When the thermostat calls for cooling the red and green light will flash indicating a time delay. The fan has started and the compressor will start in approximately 3 minutes. Only after the compressor has started will you see a solid green light. If a red light is on solid this will indicate that (front or rear or both) air conditioner has been shed or turned off because other loads have been turned on without sufficient power to operate everything. When those other appliances are turned off you will see flashing lights again indicating time delay followed by a solid green light.

I don't know about 2001 units, but my 2003 generator exhibited the same problem before it wouldn't start at all. Turns out there are 'two' rubber hoses in the gas supply line, one at the generator, and one on top of the MH gas tank. Both had started to rot. Still haven't figured an 'easy way' to replace the one on the top of the tank, so currently operate the unit with a 'portable' gas can when I need it. Not handy for travel but works ok when parked.
