Summer 1985 we moved from the country to the "city". Rented a U-Haul and made a couple of trips to the new homestead.
On the last trip it was time to hook up the "pop-up" to the U-Haul's hitch and pull it to the new home. The county road that led to a
State Route was a bit winding and consisted of small rolling hills that you could not see over. Traveling about 5 miles on the county road we came to the juncture of the State Road. Stopped, turned left and proceeded up through town for about 3 miles. Being stopped at a traffic light I jumped out to check on the "pop-up", "Oh NO! where's the camper??? I jumped back in the U-Haul found a location to turn around and headed back retracing the route. I was worried to death! I thought it had come loose and was in a culvert. It had come loose at the base of one of the rolling hills and a car coming over the rise had a collision with the camper! Injuries, law suits, I was upset. My wife and our friend was in the cab were laughing to beat the band. I saw no humor. I was worried and full of "What ifs............."
As we approached the intersection of the state highway and the county road, there sat the "pop-up" AT THE STOP SIGN. It was perfectly aligned in its correct half of the road at the stop sign. It was as though someone disconnected it from the U-Haul in perfect position.... I turned, repositioned the truck, hooked up the camper and headed to our new home...still upset from being worried...still up set at the two clowns in the cab with me. I found no humor in the situation. To this day I wonder what people were thinking as they passed the intersection with the abandoned camper or the people who approached it from the rear with it being perfectly stopped at the stop sign having to go around the camper to make a turn onto the state road.
