This is the big question, but boils down to a few thoughts. 1- budget, diesels cost more. 2- How are you planning on using it?
1- Budget. You can buy a diesel for the price of a gas coach, it will just be older. How much are you willing to invest? How old a coach is acceptable?
2- Using it. Where do you plan on going? Mountain driving? Flatland driving? How fast do you want too go up the hills? Will you towew? What will you tow? Realize that Gas chassis have a 5k tow limit, while diesels typically are 10k and more. Most cars that are towable are within the 5k capacity, but a trailer with a car in it, or bigger 'toads' will be more. Do you want to put a motorcycle on a lift and tow a car? Definitely diesel.
Many items to consider, but all debate needs a place to start, and these two questions are at the base of it.

Thanks. I was thinking of more in maintaining a diesel vs gas, breakdowns and that sort of things. but just the answer you provided has convinced me on a diesel.
Thanks again Charles

As far as breakdowns and maintenance goes, do the maintenance and you have less breakdowns, same for gas and diesel. An oil change on a diesel will cost more. Has more oil capacity. Everything can breakdown and typically a diesel repair will cost more, but a diesel can go 500k miles, a gas engine could but not as likely. Will you keep a coach that many miles? Doubtful.
I have a gas coach, because one of the functions was budget and condition. I travel from east to west and back to the east again each year, the power is sufficient. The ride in a good diesel is usually air ride, a gas coach will be springs and shocks. Air ride is better. Gas ride is fine.
When you start looking at diesels, be sure to find the ones with an air ride.
Where are you located?
