We have a GE Profile refrig.(just like home). I have attempted to "winterize" it and each time when we reactivate it in the spring there is a leak in the water line that feeds the icemaker. The leak is on the outside/back of the refrig which requires taking out the refrig. reinstalling a waterline then reinstalling the frige. Is there a specific protocol for "winterizing" a "home style" fridge.

There are two ways to winterize water systems. Blow out with air pressure or run RV anti-freeze through the lines. To gain access to the water lines of the ice maker the refrigerator will need to be removed. If the water lines are disconnected from the water valve they will drain and then air pressure can be used to make sure all water is out of the system. Another possibility is to connect power to the water valve causing it to open. Then air pressure can be applied to the water system to blow out the water. However the only way to be sure the water is completely out of the system is seeing RV anti-freeze run through the water lines. Be sure not to leave the anti-freeze in the ice mold as this will leave a taste that will be hard to remove in the spring.
