Awnings, Jacks and A/C Cooling

Q: We have power awnings that will no longer extend. I hear a clicking sound when I push the button, but that’s it. Not long ago, the awnings were slow to retract. Now, it’s like they’ve died. What happened and how can I fix it?

I would start by checking the voltage at the awnings. If they were working slowly and now do not operate at all I would certainly look at all wiring connections. Check with a volt meter and make sure you have 12 volts dc when awnings are trying to operate.

One of our Duro tires 80 psi on our 2009 carriage cameo had a failure in the side wall and we need to replace it. Are there any tires we can replace 2 Duros with or do we need to replace all 4 tires and if so what tires would u recommend???

Yes, you can just replace one tire. Make sure it is the same size and load rating as he other tires.

Most common problem with the freedom series is the two circuit boards not being plugged in to each other. Push or hit the right side of the inverter, if it starts working then that is the problem. Not sure about a bubble fuse? There is a fuse at the batteries, usually a 200-300 amp fuse. This will need to be checked with a meter as it will not show a visual indication of being blown.

YOU MENTIONED GETTING THE WATER OUT OF THE TOP OF THE SLIDES AFTER A LOT OF RAIN AT THE RV PARK COULD BE DONE WITH MANUAL OPERATION OF THE JACKS. IS THERE ANY CHANCE YOU COULD ERR AND CAUSE A WRENCHING OF THE COACH THAT MAY BREAK A WINDSHIELD??

When using the jacks to drain water from the slide raise one side 2"-3" to allow the water to drain to the outside of the room. Only raising the jacks 2"-3" will not cause windshield damage. Never raise the tires off the ground with the jacks.

I purchased a beauty! 1988 Fleetwood Southwind 23 . She has a warped (tumored) rooftop and i would like to know what would be best to repair/replace the roof. Would it be best to professionally get her repaired, and at what cost would this be?

Without an inspection I am not sure what problem a warped roof would cause. If it does not leak but is only a cosmetic problem i would not do anything. However if you are doing a repair this would be major repair. Find someone who is qualified to complete this repair properly.

over the past two years i have had to replace the electric start capacitor on the front a/c unit in my 2006 beaver monterey (13,5K unit). when this happens it seems to melt wires and stuff slightly from the load and then blow the breaker. any sugg

Check amperage draw of a/c unit when running. Be aware of low voltage situations. A surge protector may be the answer.

Steve, like previous years departing for Florida. We tow a car. It s always difficult finding a fuel station with easy access. Is there anything available that identifies the service stations with easy access or special pull-ins for RV s,

Gary -- Finding a station with easy in and out can be tricky. I don't know of any publication with this in mind. Get a Flying J customer card, also good at Pilot. Not a credit card, but a reward card. The more you use ot the better the per gallon discount is. They will often (not always) have easy in and out, sometimes with RV islands.

If you go to the following website, link it will help you with where the rice breaks are. You can even set your destination, mpg, tank size, at what level to refill and it will tell you the best route. Use it as a guide, it is not perfect. It will apprise you that you might want to fill before or after a state or county line. As a real life example, on a trip this past Fall we knew to fill while within Tucson, just outside the prices were about 20 cents a gallon more.

Enjoy the trip!

For what it is worth, we drive a 35' gas coach, tow an Accord 4 down, never had to unhook for gas. There have been some challenging fills, but we have always gotten out OK.
