I have a 2010 Itasca Ellipse 40 ad with Aqua hot. the exhaust pipe runs from the unit down the center of the coach for about 5 feet then turns and exists. there are three metal heat shields over the exhaust pipe. when the pipe heats up the shields start to ping and continue to do that the hotter the pipe gets the frequency picks up to almost continual. Any suggestions?

This is probably caused because the metal is flexing too much as it is heated. I would bolt a couple of metal strips to the heat shields. The heat shields need to be able to deflect the heat as well as release the heat quickly. For this reason you do not want to just increase the thickness of the metal shields. But adding a couple of strips of thicker steel to prevent flexing should work.
